Stromatolites Geoscape Series size: ~18″ x 18″ x 3″ (as shown on stand) artist: Sally Pennington Moore These kiln formed pieces are made with cane and murrini from the hot glass studio. The parts are made and then incorporated into these circular plates that resemble microscopic view of different geological features. Glass artist, Sally Pennington Moore is also a woman of science. She has a master’s in Economic Geology and worked as a geoscientist for 35 years before starting glass making. Therefore a lot of her work is influenced by her geologic past.
Stromatolites were the “reef” builders of the Silurian. Sally worked a Mississippi Valley type zinc deposit in Kentucky that was associated with Silurian biostromes that were mainly mats of stromatolites.
