Silk Worms on Capris
Beak Form Series, Cane Series
Size: 15″ x 9″ x 3″
artist: Patrick Kerry Brown
This beautiful piece is part of two series, the Beak Form as shown here and Silk Worms. The Silk Worms are short pieces of cane strategically rolled up or placed on a background.
These beak forms by Patrick are reminiscent of a curved bird’s beak. It is a delight to watch the color application which is different for each one and to see the beak being pulled and curved.
The Silk Worm series is an exploration of using short cased white cane as part of the color setup.
Cane is a color application where a thin rod of glass is made from various rods of glass of different colors to form a design. Cane ranges from simple to complex. A simple cane is basically a cylinder of colored glass coated with clear glass. There is also cased cane where the clear is coated with a color. Then with complex cane there are multiple designs, really only limited by the creator’s skill and imagination.
