These kiln-formed pieces are made with cane and murrini from the hot glass studio. The parts are made and then incorporated into these circular plates that resemble microscopic views of different geological features. Glass artist, Sally Pennington Moore is also a woman of science. She has a master’s in Economic Geology and worked as a geoscientist for 35 years before starting glass making. Therefore a lot of her work is influenced by her geologic past.
Green Algae shown here is an interpretation from modern environments. In the ancient record green seaweed lived about a billion years ago.
